***Law #444 Carry out the procedure of the Red Heifer
Num. 19:2 “This
is the ordinance of the law which the Most High hath commanded, saying, Speak
unto the children of Israel, that they bring thee a red heifer without spot,
wherein is no blemish, and upon which never came yoke...”
The red heifer or cow was to be brought to
the priests as a sacrifice and its ashes were used for the ritual purification
when an Israelite came into contact with the dead.
***Law #445 Carry out the laws of the sprinkling water
Num. 19:21 “And it shall be a
perpetual statute unto them, that he that sprinkleth the water of separation
shall wash his clothes; and he that toucheth the water of separation shall be
unclean until even.”
The ashes of the red heifer were mixed with
ashes of cedar wood, hyssop and wool or yarn dyed scarlet. The ashes were then placed in a vessel of
pure spring water to be sprinkled on the unclean. The one who sprinkled is deemed unclean until
the evening and must wash.
